By the end of day when I sit down to write the posts for my recipes I find my self dozing off in front of the computer. Rather than have recipes with a bunch of mistakes in them I am going to write summaries of posts I intend to write. Mushroom and Spinach Omelet An easy way [...]
Who doesn’t love Ice Cream? Hmmm!! Well I like it but don’t love it. My kids on the other hand love it. Ujwala is always begging to go to the ice cream shop. ” I want to go to the ice cream shop. Pleeeeease!!” I felt pretty bad saying no to her almost every day. So I [...]
Quinoa is the new health grain that is being touted a lot and I have to admit I love it. It is actually a pseudo cereal and not really a grain. If you want to eat healthier and you really don’t enjoy brown rice, I would suggest giving this a try. Ingredients 1/4 cup onions chopped [...]
Rava Laddu is a simple and easy to make sweet and Iwanted to make something special for Sankranthi. Most recipes, called for equal amounts of the main ingredients. But I find equal amounts of rava, ghee and sugar a bit too sweet for my taste. So I scaled down on the ghee and sugar.
When it comes to Upma, I have had to cave in and resort to the traditional way of making it with ghee only; and a lot of it at that. But the results are indeed delicious as a recent phone call from hubby confirmed it. Adding some veggies is my way of making it a wee [...]
Aditya’s First Grade teacher gave me a loaf of Whole Wheat Bread as a thank you for helping out in his class. It was delicious and I was hooked. She told me that she ground her own wheat and preffered using Hard White Winter Berries. This ofcourse set me off on a exploratory trip on the [...]
Aditya loves pancakes and I always make extra to freeze for later. This time around I decided to make the pancakes a bit more healthy and added whole wheat pasty flour to the recipe. He loved them and did not notice the change.
I tried to cook a lot of food during the New Year week end. It’s not an easy task when one is also down with a bad cold virus. Cooking healthy also was the aim. That I did achieve to some extent. When it comes to food I believe excess of anything is not good. [...]
The vacation last month was a much needed respite for me. Despite a hectic travel schedule I did manage to sneak in some R & R while staying with my parents. Right now I am recharged and have started getting up early to cook a little everyday. As my Mom is visiting again, I also [...]
Darn!! I’m late. Well I do have a good excuse for posting late. I have had a sudden trip to India come up. I wasn’t planning to go initially and then, well I am going now. Which mean’t a flurry of activities. I again lost track of the dates and my post is late. Oh [...]
I was asked this question by a friend of mine, a while ago. My response was another question. What kind of cake? So she explained that she had baked a cake from a mix, but the center had still been a bit gooey and uncooked. The cake had already been consumed, but she wanted to [...]
Though I am calling it the Lazy Day Jambalaya, I guess I could have also called it the Busy Day Jambalaya instead. The first time I made the dish, it was one of those crazy day’s when I came home and there was absolutely nothing to eat. The kids wanted my attention which meant I [...]
Yikees! I almost missed the reveal date for the Daring Cooks Challenge. My laptops power cable had been unfortunatley torutered to death by my ever inquisitive daughter. All my post material and photographs are usually in my laptop. I finally managed to drag myslef out to go shopping for a power adapter which will hopefully [...]
Making Naan at home is relatively easy. I have made Naan before but this was indeed my best creations yet. One thing I have realized it that I can exploit my bread machine to the max while making Indian breads. The dough turns out so soft and pliable that it makes some of the best [...]
This is a simple pasta dish made with tri colored rotini instead of the traditional spaghetti. Also in the traditional Spaghetti Carbonara, the pasta is removed from the heat before the eggs are added. I prefer to cook the eggs till they are done. It is one of my quick go to meals, and Aditya loves to [...]
There are quite a few Dinner Assembly locations around these days. The concept being that you go and assemble dinners to freeze and later just cook at home and eat. They provide you with all the ingredients pre-chopped, all you do is go assemble the meals as per the number of servings you need. They [...]
This is variation of my Coconut Flavored Veggie Pulao. Vegetable Pulao is one rice dish I love to make often. It’s the easiest way to get a good combination of veggies inot ones diet. Pair it off with a meat curry and yoghurt and a delicious and healthy meal is ready.
Atukulu Upma or Poha is another quick breakfast or snack which Shilpi keeps asking for regularly. It’s a real easy to whip up in less than 20 minutes even when I am being interrupted constantly every 2 minutes .
I have been wanting to participate in some of the blogging events going on but unfortunately haven’t been able to untill now. While browsing some of the event sites I came across the AWED Sri Lanka event. I checked out some of the links and hit the jackpot. I was trying to decide what to make [...]
This was the first time I participated in the Daring Baker’s Challenge and I almost missed the deadline. I actually forgot that I had signed up for it. I manged to fit it in the during the long weekend and Aditya had a lot of fun helping me with it.
This is a quick and easy recipe. It was one of my favourite after school snacks.I still remeber the first time my Mom made it. I was in fourth grade I think. She had come back from some event where she had learn’t to make it and there was a little leftover. I had loved it [...]
Pizza is a universal favorite in our house. I prefer to make it at home rather than buy. This way I can control the ingredients that go into it. No preservatives is the best part. Next I always cut down on the cheese. Of course this is not a 100% whole wheat pizza, but still better [...]
Dal’s are an integral part of Indian Cookery. In English they are commonly know as Lentils , Pulses or Grams. For the Indian population these are the main source of protien. Every region of India has its own unique recipe for the dals.
This was another quick meal which got good reviews from both shilpi and Aditya. I was good but I think I will avoid the processed meat and cheese next time. They were a little too salty for my taste. Ingredients 8 small burger buns 4 Veggie patties (morning star) 4 kraft chesses slices 8 slices Cotto Salami (Oscar Mayer) 1 cup [...]
