This is a quick and easy recipe. It was one of my favourite after school snacks.I still remeber the first time my Mom made it. I was inĀ fourth grade I think. She had come back from some event where she had learn’t to make it and there was a little leftover. I had loved it and asked her for the recipe. For the next few weeks that was the only snack I wanted.

When I am in a hurry to serve something different for breakfast this is an easy goto recipe.
Ingredients
- 10 slices bread
- 1/2 cup onion diced small
- 3 green chillies
- 1/4 tsp jeera
- 1/4 tsp rai
- 1/4 tsp urad dal
- 1 dry red chilli
- 2 tbsp oil
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 10 curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
- salt to taste
Method
- Heat the oil and ghee together in a pan.
- Add the seasonings ( jeera, rai, urad and red chilli) to the pan.
- Next add the curry leaves
- Add the onionsand green chillies. Saute till the onionsĀ become translucent in color.
- Add the turmeric and salt. mix well
- Dip the bread slices in water, squeeze well to remove all the water and crumble into the pan.
- Mix well and cook for a few min.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- You will notice that in the photograph the dish seems to be loaded with onions. I just wanted to use up the extra I had and later realized that I was actually short of a couple of slices of bread.
- I was out of curry leaves and omitted them
- I use both whole wheat and white bread. If you use whole wheat just keep in mind that if you use a variety with honey in it the upma will have a mild sweet taste.
