| The Alligator Chopper is one of my favorite kitchen tools. I need to admit that when it comes to onion choppers I seem to have tested most of them in the market (or to be more appropriate my Mom). The Vidalia and Progressive brand choppers hardly lasted. My Mom is slim with not much arm strength. With the Vidalia and Progressive brand choppers she really had to bang a couple of times before a single chopping action took place. Also the onions needed to be sliced into a cenitimeter broad silces and then used in the chopper. I honelstly felt that they were not worth the money at all. I would say that the Vidalia brand was a shade or two better than the Progressive brand. Both did not last too long under the constant banging from my Mom.The next chopper we tried was the Nicer Dicer. I have to admit that I liked this a lot. It came with two different blad sizes and two containers with lids. Unfortunately this also did not work for my Mom. It did last longer than the previous two. But eventually this one also broke. I found it much easier to use than the previous ones and that quatering the onions and a firm bang gave good results. |
Finally a recommendation from an Aunt led to us buying the Alligator Chopper. It was truly a worthwhile buy. It lasted under my Mom’s constant banging. I on the other hand don’t have to bang on it really. Firm pressure is sufficient to chop the onions. I usually quarter the onions and use in the chopper. If the onion is too large then I halve the quaters again.
The Advantage for me is that not only is it faster to chop onions this way but also my eyes water a lot less when I use this. I am not too sure why, but it does make the process of chopping onions a lot easier for me.
