Mixed Berry Compote

The vacation last month was a much needed respite for me. Despite a hectic travel schedule I did manage to sneak in some R & R while staying with my parents.  Right now I am recharged and have started getting up early to cook a little everyday.  As my Mom is visiting again, I also [...]

Darn!! I’m late. Well I do have a good excuse for posting late. I have had a sudden trip to India come up. I wasn’t planning to go initially and then, well I am going now. Which mean’t a flurry of activities. I again lost track of the dates and my post is late. Oh [...]

How to Bake a Cake ( from a mix)?

I was asked this question by a friend of mine, a while ago. My response was another question. What kind of cake? So she explained that she had baked a cake from a mix, but the center had still been a bit gooey and uncooked. The cake had already been consumed, but she wanted to [...]

Lazy Day Jambalaya ( Rice Cooker)

Though I am calling it the Lazy Day Jambalaya, I guess I could have also called it the Busy Day Jambalaya instead. The first time I made the dish, it was one of those crazy day’s when I came home and there was absolutely nothing to eat. The kids wanted my attention which meant I [...]

Yikees! I almost missed the reveal date for the Daring Cooks Challenge.  My laptops power cable had been unfortunatley torutered to death by my ever inquisitive daughter. All my post material and photographs are usually in my laptop. I finally managed to drag myslef out to go shopping for a power adapter which will hopefully [...]

Homemade Naan (with Yeast)

Making Naan at home is relatively easy.  I have made Naan before but this was indeed my best creations yet.  One thing I have realized it that I can exploit my bread machine to the max while making Indian breads.  The dough turns out so soft and pliable that it makes some of the best [...]

Rotini Carbonara

This is a simple pasta dish made with tri colored rotini instead of the traditional spaghetti. Also in the traditional Spaghetti Carbonara, the pasta is removed from the heat before the eggs are added. I prefer to cook the eggs till they are done. It is one of my quick go to meals, and Aditya loves to [...]

At Home Dinner Assembly Session

There are quite a few Dinner Assembly locations around these days. The concept being that you go and assemble dinners to freeze and later just cook at home and eat. They provide you with all the ingredients pre-chopped, all you do is go assemble the meals as per the number of servings you need.  They [...]

Menu Plan 06/01/2009 – 06/07/2009

I have been taking a break from menu planning again. Well, I’m back to planning again. I had a productive culinary weekend so this weeks plan shold be easy to stick to.

Coconut Milk Veggie Pulao

This is variation of my Coconut Flavored Veggie Pulao. Vegetable Pulao is one rice dish I love to make often. It’s the easiest way to get a good combination of veggies inot ones diet.  Pair it off with a meat curry and yoghurt and a delicious and healthy meal is ready.

Atukula Uppma (Flattened Rice Upma)

Atukulu Upma or Poha is another quick breakfast or snack which Shilpi keeps asking for regularly. It’s a real easy to whip up in less than 20 minutes even when I am being interrupted constantly every 2 minutes .

Sri Lankan Egg Curry

I have been wanting to participate in some of the blogging events going on but unfortunately haven’t been able to untill now. While browsing some of the event sites I came across the AWED Sri Lanka event. I checked out some of the links and hit the jackpot. I was trying to decide what to make [...]

This was the first time I participated in the Daring Baker’s Challenge and I almost missed the deadline. I actually forgot that I had signed up for it.  I manged to fit it in the during the long weekend and Aditya had a lot of fun helping me with it.

Bread Upma

This is a quick and easy recipe. It was one of my favourite after school snacks.I still remeber the first time my Mom made it. I was in fourth grade I think. She had come back from some event where she had learn’t to make it and there was a little leftover. I had loved it [...]

Whole Wheat Pizza Dough

Pizza is a universal favorite in our house.  I prefer to make it at home rather than buy. This way I can control the ingredients that go into it. No preservatives is the best part. Next I always cut down on the cheese.  Of course this is not a 100% whole wheat pizza, but still better [...]

Dal’s are an integral part of  Indian Cookery.  In English they are commonly know as Lentils , Pulses or Grams.  For the Indian population these are the main source of protien.  Every region of  India has its own unique recipe for the dals.

Quick Salami and Veggie Burger.

This was another quick meal which got good reviews from both shilpi and Aditya. I was good but I think I will avoid the processed meat and cheese next time. They were a little too salty for my taste.  Ingredients 8 small burger buns 4 Veggie patties (morning star) 4 kraft chesses slices 8 slices Cotto Salami (Oscar Mayer) 1 cup [...]

Quick Noodle Stir Fry.

Well not only was the Stir Fry quick, I did the same with photographing it.  Not the best shot and it was taken at night, which means using a flash and I really don’t like the extra gloss that has been added to the noodles.  Oh well!! I managed to get a pic at least. Lets [...]

This is my very first post in this series and I have decided to set some ground rules for my self regarding how I will proceed.   For the sake of consistency I will list all the dals with their Hindi names. Each post will have a number associated with them for an easy way to kep track [...]

Cooking Lentils or Dals

One day I arrived home to find that Shilpesh had put Rajma and Masoor dal in the cooker in the hopes to make a dal of the variety Aditya likes. Aditya is extremely fond of the Madras Lentils that can be got in Costco. I really think it tastes more like Dal Makhani, but may [...]

Events Page.

I have added a new Food Blogging Events page. I am trying to capture all the active Food Blooging Events going on, along with a link to their guidelines. If there are event’s that I may have missed out, please go ahead and leave me a message with the event name and a link to its [...]

Trip to An Asian Grocery Store

I requested a colleague of mine to accompany me to the Asian Grocery store near work. She is from Hong Kong and I really wanted her view of things to buy.  I purchased some fresh and dry noodles and also fried tofu and bok choy.

Tilapia Fish Nuggets

Fish or Chicken nuggets are one of Aditya’s favorite snacks. I try to keep some on hand all the time. Over the weekend I made some in bulk and froze them. One thing I have learnt is that for me at least bulk cooking though not easy is indeed a life saver. I can manage [...]

Basic Crepes

As a kid I think crepes were the first ever dish I made following a recipe.  They were called pancakes in the book I had and the book was Every Girls Handbook. My mom had presented it to me during the summer break of 7th grade I think. We were in Pune then and my [...]

So Many things to do So Little Time

Well, I guess the title conveys it all. I have been cooking up  a lot of stuff recently, but unfortunately haven’t had the time to post them all. So what did I cook? Here is a list of the recipes I hope to post soon. Homemade Chicken Teriyaki meatballs Homemade Sphaggeti Homemade Meat Sauce with Chicken Crepes with Chicken and [...]
