This is one of the simplest dishes to make. It is usually served with rice, ghee and pickle. The Avakaya Pachhadi (spicy mango pickle) is usually the favorite with this dish.

It is also one of the first foods given to children in Andhra.  Soft cooked rice and sudda pappu with a generous helping of  ghee, is usually a child’s favorite meal.

It is also called mudda pappu or voti pappu.

Ingredients
1 cup – yellow lentils ( Toor Dal)

2 ½ cups – water

salt to taste

Method

Wash the lentils well to remove any dirt.

Put the lentils and water in a pressure cooker and cook on medium heat.

After three whistles, remove from heat and let it cool.

When there is no steam escaping from the cooker, remove lid and stir in the salt.

Serve hot with rice, ghee and pickle.

Note:

One can reduce the quantity of water to 2 cups to get a less watery dal. That would make it more consistent with its name of sudda pappu or mudda pappu.
