This recipe is my grandmother’s recipe. It is really delicious and many non mushroom eaters have gotten converted after trying this dish out.
Ingredients
- Mushrooms – 2 lb
- Onions – 2 medium, chopped
- Cinnamon stick – 1 inch piece
- Ginger paste – ½ tsp
- Garlic paste – ½ tsp
- Cloves – 4
- Milk – ¼ cup
- Garam masala – ¼ tsp
- Oil – 2 tbsp
Method
- Heat oil in a pan and add the cloves and cinnamon. When the cloves start crackling add the onions and sauté till they become translucent in color.
- Next add the ginger garlic paste and cook for another minute. Now add the mushrooms and cook on low heat for 5 min.
- Then add milk and let it cook for another few minutes. Make sure the heat is on low or the milk will start to curdle.
- Finally add the garam masala and cook for another minute.
- Remove from heat and garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.

Pl. let me know if milk can be substituted with water. I hate milk in any food preparations except sweets

You could if you wish to, but it will not taste the same. If you are not averse to cream in foods then you could try adding some cream instead of milk. I ocassionally use either havey cream or evaporated milk on special ocassions.
